Beauty AND Style

All mammals have some hair on their skin, even marine mammals which appear to be hairless. Because it interfaces with the environment, skin plays a key role in protecting (the body) against pathogens and excessive water loss. Its other functions are insulation, temperature regulation, sensation, and the protection of vitamin D folates. Severely damaged skin will try to heal by forming scar tissue. This is often discoloured and depigmented.
Skin is a soft outer covering of an animal, in particular a vertebrate. Other animal coverings such as the arthropod exoskeleton or the seashell have different developmen  and chemical composition. The adjective cutaneous means "of the skin" (from Latincutis, skin). In mammals, the skin is the largest organ of the integumentary system made up of multiple layers of ectodermal tissue, and guards the underlying muscles, bones, ligaments and internal organs. Skin of a different nature exists in amphibians, reptiles, and birds.

David Beckham injury

David Beckham will miss the World Cup and most if not all the Los Angeles Galaxy season after tearing his left Achilles' tendon Sunday while playing for AC Milan.
His international career for England is all but over. It remains to be seen how much he'll have left for the Galaxy and Major League Soccer.
"He will miss the World Cup for sure," a person familiar with the injury told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because an official announcement had not been made. The person said it was likely the 34-year-old midfielder will play again.
Beckham was injured without getting hit during AC Milan's 1-0 Italian League win over visiting Chievo Verona.
With only a few minutes remaining and the score 0-0, Beckham was by himself with the ball at his feet, shifted his weight and reached a hand down to his left heel. Beckham then stood up and snapped his wrists like he was breaking a twig in half in a gesture to show the AC Milan bench he knew the tendon was broken.
Visibly in pain and in tears, Beckham went to the sideline for medical attention, leaving Milan a man short because all three substitutes had been used.

"He felt the muscle begin to come up, which is a typical symptom when you break an Achilles' tendon," Milan coach Leonardo told Sky. "This is a real blow."
Beckham was England's captain from November 2000 through the 2006 World Cup. He was due back with the Galaxy after the World Cup.
"He'll probably be out for five or six months," AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani told Sky. "I saw him really suffering. In the changing room I hugged him and told him that if he wants he can join us next year, too."

David Beckham `driving recklessly` before car crash

David Beckham was allegedly 'driving recklessly' and 'speeding really bad' before a multiple car pile-up in Los Angeles last month, according to emergency telephone calls.
The football star and 12-year-old son Brooklyn escaped injury when his car rear-ended another on one of the city's busiest freeways.
Now 911 calls made by other drivers to report the accident suggest that Beckham - who was driving his luxury black Cadillac Escalade SUV - was going fast enough to attract their attention.
One female caller, who said she was behind Beckham for miles, told the operator: 'I just want to let you know that the guy with the SUV was speeding all the way from LAX [Los Angeles Airport]. He was speeding really bad from LAX. I let him pass by and he was just driving so recklessly.'
A male caller claimed that Beckham's vehicle was 'definitely speeding' and 'tailgating' another car. He added: 'It pulled out of the car pool lane and pulled back in, kind of breaking a couple of traffic laws. He was definitely speeding and cutting in and out of the yellow lines.'
Police were at the scene but Beckham was not arrested nor questioned.

David Beckham

WHY IS HE FAMOUS

David Beckham is famous because he can build a walnut treasure chest from scratch faster than anyone else on the planet. OK, we're kidding. The truth is, if we have to tell you why David Beckham is famous, we probably have to feed you your food through a straw too. For well over a decade, Becks -- as he's known to his rabid global fan base -- has cultivated an image that transcends football. As one of the most decorated and recognizable athletes of his generation, Beckham's on-field accomplishments have learned to take a back seat to the off-field spectacle that has become his life. Since marrying Victoria "Posh" Adams, Beckham has emerged as an international icon, whose life is a dizzying mosaic of fame, fortune and excess. As one of the most bankable brand names in sports, Beckham could never wear a pair of cleats again and still watch the scratch roll in. But the man loves football, and after a career resurgence had him on pace to play in his fourth World Cup, Beckham suffered a torn Achilles tendon that will relegate him to the sidelines in South Africa, as England's assistant coach. Now open wide, these pureed bananas are getting chalky.

David Beckham, wife expecting baby girl

LOS ANGELES -- David Beckham's three sons are getting a little sister.
Beckham told a gathering of Los Angeles Galaxy fans Friday afternoon that his and wife Victoria's fourth child, due this summer, will be a daughter.
"Obviously, we're very lucky to be expecting again, and this is the first time I'm going to say it: It's a little girl," the Galaxy midfielder said at the team's annual fan luncheon in ESPN Zone at L.A. Live.
"We're still in shock. Obviously, having three boys, you kind of expect another one, so finding out a little girl is in there is surprising, but, obviously, we are over the moon. Our three boys are happy and excited, and Victoria is doing well."
Beckham, 35, who is entering the final season of his five-year contract with the Major League Soccer club, and his wife, the former "Posh Spice" from the Spice Girls pop group, married in 1999. They have three boys -- Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, 8, and Cruz, 6 -- and announced on his Facebook page in January they were expecting their fourth child.
Victoria Beckham, 36, is due in July.
